Training

Creating services where LGBTQ+ parents and families feel seen, respected and safely supported starts with confident, informed professionals.

I provide training and consultancy for NHS perinatal and maternal mental health services, maternity services, charities, voluntary sector organisations, and professionals supporting families during the perinatal period.

The training focuses on helping professionals develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to provide inclusive, compassionate and trauma-informed care for LGBTQ+ parents and families experiencing perinatal mental health difficulties.

Grounded in the latest evidence and informed by lived experience, every session is engaging, reflective and tailored to the needs of your team or service.

The training explores the experiences of LGBTQ+ parents during the perinatal period and supports professionals to deliver more inclusive care, including:

  • Understand LGBTQ+ experiences of pregnancy and early parenthood - covering identities, terminology, inclusive language, and the diverse pathways LGBTQ+ people take to parenthood.

  • Recognise the impact of discrimination and minority stress on perinatal mental health, and identify the barriers LGBTQ+ people commonly face within healthcare services.

  • Build practical, inclusive care skills through case studies, lived experience perspectives, and group discussion - strengthening communication, documentation, and service delivery.

Training Options

Training can be tailored to suit your organisation's needs, and is available as:

  • Online or in-person sessions

  • Half-day or full-day workshops

  • Conference presentations

  • Bespoke training designed around your service's specific learning needs

Open Training Sessions

For individual practitioners who'd like to attend independently - outside of a commissioned team or service booking - I run open training sessions throughout the year. These sessions explore LGBTQ+ experiences during the perinatal period and support professionals to develop more inclusive, confident approaches to care.
